Commencement at FIU is where all the nuts and bolts come together. It’s where every student, professor, and staff member’s hard work pays off. For our team, it’s where we make sure every student has a chance to be seen and recognized by all their loved ones, whether they’re watching virtually or sitting in the stands.
There are a lot of roles that need to be filled on commencement days. Lucky for us, we’ve got plenty of teams working together to bring it all to life. On the production side alone, we need a director, about four to five camera operators, a content operator, a lighting operator, and an audio operator.
This commencement season, I had the privilege of directing a good portion of the ceremonies. I started as a single handheld camera operator (shoutout to our Camera 3 operators), moved into multiple-camera PTZ operation, then became a content operator, and now I’m directing.
Might I add, I have the most fun directing.
There’s nothing like putting on my comms, calling shots, and getting the perfect confetti shot during the Hospitality College’s ceremony.
For the students, it’s their time to celebrate their accomplishments.
For me, it’s my time to put on my comms and capture all the confetti.
