Panther’s F1rst Night is when the university welcomes all its new students for a night of music and a dash of student-life info. Except I’m needed for the night of music portion.
This year, my team and I were responsible for setting up cameras and content for the jumbotron and big screens throughout the stadium. It was a long day of setup, a sharp call time (once 2 p.m. hit, there was no going in or out of the stadium for our team), and, of course, a fun fireworks show to cap things off.
Honestly, the biggest challenge wasn’t the setup. It was the downpour of rain.
Luckily, we came prepared this year with well equipped with tents, tarps, and fans to help keep things dry. Miami is no stranger to sudden hurricane status, but our equipment definitely is. Ain’t no way we were letting our beloved Roland V-160 take a dip in the pool.
We secured the equipment, saw the lightning, booked it for cover, wet our socks on the way, and waited for our manager to deliver some much needed Pub Subs.
Pub Subs were enjoyed. The event went smoothly. And, thankfully, teardown passed swiftly.
Paws Up Panthers! The fall semester is in session!
